Privacy policy
1. What Rippo is
Rippo is a contact-management app for iPhone: you scan business cards, organize the people you meet, and set follow-up reminders. This policy lists the data the app handles, where it goes, and the choices you have.
2. Data we handle
- Account. When you sign in with Apple, Google, or LINE we receive an account identifier and your email address when the provider supplies one (LINE accounts may not include an email — we ask for one in the app). We also store your app settings (language, plan).
- Contacts you add. The information on business cards you scan or type: names, companies, titles, phone numbers, email addresses, postal addresses, LINE IDs, websites — plus the tags, stages, follow-up dates, and notes you attach, and the card photos you scan.
- Purchases. Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple. Rippo receives their status.
- Diagnostics. Error reports and a small sample of performance measurements go to a crash-reporting service. Emails, phone numbers, tokens and sign-in headers are removed from the report data, and each report carries an account code instead of your name or email. The text of an error can include something you entered.
Business cards contain other people's information. You add it as the keeper of your own address book, and Rippo stores it to provide the service to you.
3. Card scanning
Quick scan reads the card on your iPhone.
Pro scan sends the card photo to a cloud text-recognition service, and the recognized text to a third-party AI service that sorts it into contact fields. They process it to produce your contact entry. Rippo asks for your agreement before your first Pro scan.
4. Where contacts are stored
On every plan, your contacts and card photos are stored on your iPhone and in your own iCloud.
On Trial, Pro and Max, Rippo Cloud also keeps a copy, so LINE and Google Calendar can work with your contacts. The copy is kept in step with your iPhone, and you can disconnect it in Settings.
5. LINE (optional)
If you connect LINE, Rippo links your LINE user ID to your account, so cards you send to Rippo's LINE official account are read like a Pro scan and added to your contacts.
6. Google Calendar sync (optional)
If you connect Google Calendar, Rippo creates a dedicated "Rippo Follow-ups" calendar in your Google account and keeps it in step with your follow-up dates.
- What Rippo sends: the contact's name, the follow-up date and time, and a link back to the contact in Rippo. That link contains an opaque contact identifier. Notes, phone numbers, emails and other details stay in Rippo.
- Changes you make in Google Calendar reach your Rippo contacts only after you review them.
- Rippo's use of Google user data complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
If you disconnect, you choose whether the calendar is kept (it stops updating and is renamed) or deleted. Rippo keeps an encrypted copy of the sync credential for at most 30 days — usually much less — to finish removing notification channels, apply your calendar choice, and revoke its own access; it is then deleted. You can also revoke Rippo's access at any time in your Google Account security settings.
7. Apple Calendar sync (optional)
If you connect Apple Calendar, Rippo creates a dedicated "Rippo Follow-ups" calendar on your iPhone and keeps it in step with your follow-up dates.
- What goes into the calendar: the contact's name, the follow-up date, and a link back to the contact in Rippo. That link contains an opaque contact identifier. Notes, phone numbers, emails and other details stay in Rippo.
- Reading your calendar and working out what changed happens on your iPhone.
- The events live in your own calendar account. If that account is iCloud, Apple syncs them to your other Apple devices.
- Changes you make in the calendar reach your Rippo contacts only after you review them. A change you accept is saved to the contact, and to its Rippo Cloud copy if you keep one.
If you disconnect, you choose whether the calendar is kept (it stops updating and is renamed) or its follow-up events are removed. Calendar access is a permission you grant iOS; you can withdraw it at any time in the iOS Settings app.
8. Opening addresses in map apps
When you export selected contacts as a route, their postal addresses and the visit order you arranged are put into a Google Maps web address and handed to Google when it opens. If the Google Maps app is not installed, the address opens in your browser and stays in its browser history. This happens when you tap Export, for the contacts you selected. Google processes it under its own privacy policy.
Opening a single contact's address in Apple Maps or Google Maps likewise sends that one address to the map provider you chose.
9. Your profile and sharing
Your card link and its QR code show your profile — name, photo, intro, cards, featured images and links — to anyone who has the link. The link stays the same; what it shows follows your latest edits. You choose how your contact details show: to everyone, or only after a card exchange — then your phone, LINE, email and card photos show only to people you have exchanged cards with. Someone who adds you in Rippo keeps the card they can see, its photo included, in their own account.
On Trial, Pro and Max you can also give your page a name, rippo.app/@name — the same page, at an address people can type. When your details show to everyone, the page fills them in after an automatic bot check that runs as it opens.
A card exchange sends your card and an optional note of up to 100 characters to the person you ask. If they accept, each of you receives the other's card and sees the other's details from then on. A request ends after 30 days; an answered request is erased 90 days after the answer, and the exchange itself stays until either of you deletes your account. Blocking is silent and stops that person's requests.
Anyone can report a profile page, and the person who receives a request can report it. A report records the page or request, the reason and any note — for a page, also a one-way code made from the reporter's IP address, to limit repeats — and a copy goes to our support inbox.
10. Ads on the Free plan
On the Free plan, an advertising network shows one banner ad in the app. The network receives your IP address, device and app information, and the ads you see and tap. It receives your iPhone's advertising identifier if you allow tracking when iOS asks; you can change that in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking. Trial, Plus and paid plans show no ads.
11. Who receives data
| Recipient | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Cloud hosting services | Run Rippo Cloud (accounts, sign-in, and contacts and card photos on Trial, Pro and Max), this website and share links |
| A cloud text-recognition service | Reads the text on a card photo for a Pro scan or a card sent on LINE |
| A third-party AI service | Sorts recognized card text into contact fields |
| A crash-reporting service | Error reports and performance samples |
| An advertising network | The banner ad on the Free plan |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, purchases and subscriptions, push notifications, iCloud, Apple Calendar, Apple Maps |
| Sign in with Google; Google Calendar and Google Maps when you use them | |
| LINE | Sign in with LINE; cards you send to Rippo on LINE |
12. Retention and deletion
- A contact you delete stays in Recently deleted for 30 days, then is erased.
- Deleting your account removes your account, your Rippo Cloud contacts and card photos, your settings, your profile, address and share links, and the card exchange requests you sent or received. Contacts stored on your iPhone and in your iCloud stay there. Step-by-step instructions, including what to do if you can no longer sign in.
- When a paid plan or trial ends, everything stays on your iPhone. Rippo Cloud keeps its copy for 30 days, then erases it once your iPhone holds all of it.
- When you disconnect Rippo Cloud, its contact records are erased within 8 days and card photos within 14 days.
13. Your rights
You can see and correct your data in the app, export a copy of all your contacts at any time on every plan (Settings › Export a copy: vCard, CSV or a Rippo file, without card photos), and delete contacts or your whole account as described above. Privacy questions and requests: support@rippo.app.
14. Security, children, changes
Data is encrypted in transit and access is checked per account. Rippo is a business tool and is not directed at children. If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with its effective date.
